OREANDA-NEWS. September 13, 2013. Vice-premier, Minister of Economy of Moldova Valeriu Lazar has made a trip to Drochia to learn how the plant is being built and to check whether the uninterrupted work of the plant is ensured after its launch. According to him, removing barriers to this project will help encourage the market of renewable energy sources.

The plant was built by the largest operator of the sugar market of Moldova Suedzucker Moldova on the territory of its sugar mill in Drochia, the Economy Ministry informs. Every year the plant is expected to generate about 8 million cu m of biogas from sugar beet waste of the company’s beet-processing factory.

This amount of biogas will be enough to cover about 13% of the energy the enterprise consumes. Biogas is going to be generated only as sugar is being milled, a spokesperson of the company said. For the rest of the time the company is going to use services of power and heat-distributing companies. Valeriu Lazar highly appreciated Suedzucker Moldova’s initiative to invest in development of renewable energy sources.

As he said, the company may allot the saved money to development of its human assets and to support of other business processes. The Economy Minister pointed out that the state backs initiatives of private companies under the Energy and Biomass project, financed by the EU and UNDP. He reminded that the government had set it as its goal to bring the share of renewed energy up to 20% of a total volume of the energy consumption by 2020. Suedzucker Moldova launched the construction of the biogas plant this June, InfoMarket reported earlier. The plant is expected to be put into service by late September.
