OREANDA-NEWS. Vale continuous efforts to improve results in a safe and sustainable manner have been internationally recognized. Vale in Canada received the IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award for its performance in risk management. The award is granted by IHS, a global information company focusing on energy, geopolitical risk, sustainability and supply chain management.

In 2006, risk managers identified the need for a company to have an overall vision of potential risks that could prevent it from accomplishing its goals. They began to evaluate preventive actions to provide more security for business development. The objective was to make the company more proactive in risk management in order to support strategic planning and operations.

Other steps taken include the creation of a structure for integrated risk management with the establishment of standardized policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as the implementation of software in 2011 that centralized strategic data in a single information system.
