Turnover of Dry Cargo via Batumi Sea Port Reached Peak in August
OREANDA-NEWS. Batumi Sea Port (BSP) has been controlled by “KazTransOil” JSC, which has owned Batumi Oil Terminal (BOT), possessing in turn an exclusive management title of BSP since February 2008.
Within the frames of development of foreign assets in 2012 “KazTransOil” JSC has started implementation of the project on expansion of throughput capacity of Batumi Sea Port on transshipment of general cargo up to 2.5 MTA. The project has been financed at the expense of own funds of Batumi Industrial Holdings Limited group of companies, which includes BOT and BSP and will be completed in 2014.
At the beginning of 2013 organizational structure of BSP has been optimized, aimed to improve port performance. In the result in August 2013 turnover of dry cargo via Batumi Sea port reached its peak throughout the entire history of activity of given facility - 220 000 tons (26% over implementation to planed indicator).
The total dry cargo turnover indicator of BSP for 8 months of 2013 made up 1 195 160 tons while planned volume 1 141 000 tons (implementation - 104,7%).
The main goal of acquisition of BSP and BOT by “KazTransOil” JSC was diversification of export routes of Kazakhstani oil, as well as ensuring of direct bridge for Kazakhstani products to global markets. Taking into account geographic remoteness of Kazakhstani oil fields from key global oil consumption markets, this transaction is of high importance for development of export potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as given foreign assets at the Black Sea with direct access to Worldwide Ocean have a beneficial strategic and geopolitical location.
Batumi Sea port is located in South-Eastern part of the Black Sea. The territory of port covers 22.2 ha. Number of piers - 11. The total area of open storage - 16 412 sq.m. Oil, container, cargo and passenger terminal, mooring complex to maintain ferries, cargo terminal for dry cargo processing is located in the port.
