Moldova Adopted Transport and Logistics Strategy for 2013-2022
OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2013. As the Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vasilii Botnari has noted, the introduction of measures to develop the road sector will require 1 billion 761 million euro, rail transport- 500 million euro, air transport - 55 million euro , water- river transport - 18 million euro, trade facilitation - 44 million euro.
To implement the Strategy it is expected to use the state budget funds, foreign investment and other sources. The Transport and Logistics Strategy for 2013-2022 was developed with the support of the World Bank and aims to establish an effective system of transport and logistics to facilitate and promote domestic and foreign trade, achieve sustainable economic growth and enhance the role of Moldova as a bridge between EU and CIS.
According to the strategy in the road sector it is planned to repair and upgrade till 2018 1730 km of national roads of priority importance, by 2022 - 1360 km of other national roads, as well as more than 6 thousand km of local roads. Each year it is planned to repair about 300 km of roads and attract investment of 120 million euro. In the field of railway transport it is planned to reorganize the State Enterprise "Railway of Moldova" by splitting it into three business units responsible for passenger, freight and rail infrastructure.
It is expected to upgrade the rolling stock of the national railway, buy new cars and locomotives, build a transshipment terminal in Ungheni, create a national carload company and provide rail access to the multimodal center in Chisinau. In the field of air transport it is planned to privatize civil aviation sector by putting Chisinau airport in concession and privatization of the companies Air Moldova, Aeroport Handlind and Aeroport Catering.
It is also planned to build a cargo terminal in Chisinau airport, to extend the main passenger terminal and to attract investment in Marculesti airport.
