Murmansk Commercial Seaport Sets Record Loading Coal to Largest Ship
OREANDA-NEWS. The Murmansk Commercial Seaport completed handling the 9-hold ship Golden Beijing of 175,819 tonnes deadweight (297.26 m in length, 45 m in beam). It is the largest ship ever to have been loaded at the Port’s docks. The ship was loaded with 153,142 tonnes of coal from SUEK mines - a historic high in the Port’s cargo operations.
The ship’s loading kept going August 20-27 and was completed one day ahead of the schedule. The cargo was loaded at the daily average rate of 21,900 tonnes. By the final stage of the cargo operations the ship was loaded with 22,692 tonnes of coal within 5 hours 20 minutes. The stevedores finished the cargo stowage at the record rate of 4,257 metric tons per hour.
“The Port’s docks are increasingly frequented by Cape Size type ships of over 100,000 metric tons deadweight. The Golden Beijing handling became a new milestone in the Port’s history and a display of the utmost professionalism of its team,” stressed Alexander Mas’ko, CEO, Murmansk Commercial Seaport.
