OREANDA-NEWS. SSE Renewables, the renewable energy development division of SSE, has held public exhibitions to inform local communities of its plans to explore a potential repower and extension of the existing wind farm at Tangy, situated on the west coast of the Kintyre Peninsula, Argyll & Bute.

The original wind farm at Tangy has been in operation for almost ten years. It comprises of 15 turbines with a 7-turbine extension which became operational in 2007. The existing site is expected to remain in operation until 2022. The proposals would significantly increase the efficiency and longevity of the site.

A range of constructive views were given when over 30 members of the public attended two exhibitions on Tuesday 27 August at Machrihanish Village Hall and then at Campbeltown Town Hall.

Local community members were presented with an early outline of the proposals and the work which is underway to understand any potential impact on the local environment.

Feedback given via comments forms, letters and emails before the deadline of Tuesday 24 September 2013 will help to shape more detailed plans for the site which SSE Renewables will present through further exhibitions planned for spring time next year.

Kerry-Anne McKay, Project Manager for the Tangy III proposal, explained: “The proposals are at a very early stage in the development process and we are working closely with statutory and non-statutory consultees. We are pleased that members of the public have taken the time to come and speak with us and find out more about our proposals.

“The purpose of our exhibitions is to provide the opportunity for people to meet the project team, ask questions, raise any concerns and provide comments that can be considered as part of the development process. “

SSE is committed to bringing tangible economic benefits to the Argyll and Bute region. This is demonstrated through its continued investment in Wind Towers in Machrihanish and the SSE Open4Business portal which allows local businesses to engage with the company and its key stakeholders on contract opportunities.
