GAZPROM Germania Expands Network of Natural Gas Filling Stations
OREANDA-NEWS. GAZPROM Germania has signed an agreement under which it will acquire Ferngas Nordbayern (FGN)’s network of natural gas filling stations. The company will acquire 12 natural gas filling stations in southern Germany from the Bavarian energy supplier on 1 September 2013
“With this acquisition, we are expanding our natural gas filling station in Germany and strengthening our commitment to the use of natural gas as environmentally-friendly motor fuel”, said Vyacheslav Krupenkov, Senior Managing Director of GAZPROM Germania GmbH.
The deal will see GAZPROM Germania’s network of natural gas filling stations jump from 8 stations to 23 stations by the end of 2013.
Natural gas is becoming increasingly important as a fuel for motor vehicles. There are just under 100,000 natural gas vehicles registered in Germany, and that number is increasing fast: In the first six months of 2013, Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority registered 4,300 natural gas vehicles, the largest number of any comparable period ever.
