OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2013. Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) has announced half year performance results.

Over this period, KPO produced 66.934 million barrels of oil equivalent in the form of stable and unstable liquids, sour gas for export, and sweet gas for use as fuel.  In addition, 3,948 million cubic meters of sour dry gas were injected into the reservoir, a volume equivalent to approximately 47 % of the total gas produced.

Over the first half of 2013 KPO has achieved a world-class gas utilisation rate of 99.86 per cent.

As of today, KPO Partners have invested approximately USD 17 billion into developing the field, whilst direct payments to the RoK budget have made some USD 9.4 billion. In addition, salaries to the national staff of KPO have made up approximately USD 0.81 billion.

The KPO local vendor development programme has made it possible to bring more than 3 thousand RoK enterprises into the development of Karachaganak.  As of today, these companies have concluded contracts with KPO with a value exceeding USD 4 billion.  Over the six months of 2013, the Kazakh Content in Karachaganak project made up to 49.9%, or USD 111.7 million.

Sustainable development is embedded into all aspects of KPO’s activities.  The company fully supports the Kazakhstan government’s initiatives designed to move to a ‘green’ economy.

Over this period, the volume of flared gas made up only 0.14 per cent of the total gas produced, or 0.82 tonnes per thousand ton of crude produced.  This is a world-class performance taking into account the worldwide average, which exceeds 15 tons per thousand tons of crude produced.  On the whole, since 1998, KPO has invested nearly USD 250 million into environmental protection activities.

KPO’s investments have positively impacted the social development of West Kazakhstan.  Each year, KPO allocates USD 20 million for social infrastructure development in the region.  All construction activities solely utilise Kazakh contractors.  As of today, the total KPO social investments have exceeded USD 565 million, including the construction of the Karachaganak - Uralsk gas pipeline that was brought into production in the end of 2011.
