OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2013. There are over 16 thousand bridges in Ukraine. One fourth of these were built in the pre-war period (3.5 thousand). Almost 60% more were constructed in the 50-70eth of the last century (9.2 thousand). Presently 12% bridges (1.9 thousand) need reconstruction and repair.

The problems exist. But today we have solved one of these – ensuring of uninterrupted cargo and passenger flows through Dniester. Today there has been opened after repair the bridge over the Dniester in Ataky village of Chernivtsi region. It has a strategic meaning for the whole country. The bridge is located near the state border and secures essential motor transport communication of Ukraine with Romania and Moldova, Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul has explained.

“The activities on the bridge have been fulfilled for 3 months. 85% used materials are of national production,” the Vice Premier informed.

Owing to the conducted works the normative loading on the bridge has grown twofold and it will be capable to stand vehicles with the total weight 30 tons. Moreover, the size of bridge roadway has been enlarged, the new covering laid, noise and vibration levels cut.

“Through 2010 – 2013 there have been repaired and reconstructed 176 bridges. By the end of year it is planned to complete works on 50 objects more. And it means larger motor transport flows, workplaces in building area, improvement of comfort and safety of traffic for drivers and pedestrians,” Olexandr Vilkul summed up.
