SK E&C Won Contract for Nghi Son Marine Construction
OREANDA-NEWS. SK E&C announced that the company won a USD 417 million (KRW 463 billion) contract for the marine construction in Vietnam, which is company's first overseas marine construction. After being awarded with a USD 1.05 billion contract, which is one of the Vietnamese largest oil refinery contracts, in January 2013 by NSRP LLC, the company won another mega marine construction contract of the same project.
This project, announced by JGCS Consortium which is executing Nghi Son Refinery project, is to build 1,600m of breakwaters, 60m of shore protection structures, 35km of two underwater oil pipelines, and a jetty that can accommodates four large vessels, in the seashore of the Nghi Son refinery, which is located 200km southeast from the Vietnamese capital Hanoi.
The total construction period will be 36 months, including engineering, procurement, construction, and support to the test operation.
SK E&C won three major packages among five marine construction packages, beating global companies such as TOYO Construction, TECHNIP, PTSE Vietnam, and Punj Lloyd.
The price of three packages accounts for 85% of total construction cost, which represents that SK E&C is in charge of all the major parts of the construction. In particular, the significance of this project lies in that SK E&C is expecting a drastic growth of its marine construction capability and technologies through this project.
Lee Choong-woo, President of SK E&C Infrastructure Biz, said, “With this contract, we are able to win total KRW 1 trillion of overseas construction contracts. Through this contract, we succeeded in diversifying business portfolio from underground gathering center and tunnel construction to marine construction. We will make an effort to secure additional business opportunities by successfully completing this project.”
