The work of the environmental expedition for cleaning up the Bely Island is divided into two stages: the winter and the summer ones.

The Bely Island, separated from the Yamal Peninsula by the Malygin Strait, is located in the state nature sanctuary in the Kara Sea. The area of the island is 1,900 square kilometers. Previously it used to be a military base. In addition, a polar hydro meteorological station has been here since the 1930’s.

The environmental expedition also worked here in 2012, clearing up some 20 per cent of the littered area.
