Moldova Compensates Losses to Farmers Due to Heavy Rains and Hail
OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2013. These funds were provided by the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Agriculture from the reserve fund. The Cabinet also approved the Regulation on the procedure for granting compensation.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasilii Bumacov noted that compensations will be granted to agricultural enterprises, peasant farms and individuals where more than 60% of crops had been affected. The amount of compensation per 1 ha of the affected crops will be calculated and approved by the special committees composed of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Civil Protection and Emergency Situations, the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture and producers associations.
It is expected that the amount of compensation will make 400 lei per ha of the affected grain-crops and 1.2 thousand lei per ha of vegetables and perennial plantations. It should be noted that this year, torrential rain and hail affected almost all areas. In particular, the natural disasters from May to June lasted almost 38 days (9 days in May, 22 – in June and 7 - in July). In general, crops were affected in 187 villages and 6 towns from 28 regions.
Hail damaged about 70 ha of land. The material damage amounted to 540 million lei. The Prime Minister Iurie Leanca called for transparent and fair procedure of allocating appropriated funds, taking into account the extent of damage to agricultural crops.
