Moldova Approved National Strategy for Regional Development
OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2013. It is the main instrument of regional development planning, and contains measures to implement relevant policies in this area. The Strategy outlines the prospects for regional development of Moldova and also defines tools and mechanisms to achieve strategic objectives.
The document was developed in accordance with the targets and objectives of the National Development Strategy, as well as other national and sectoral policies. The National Strategy for Regional Development for 2013-2015 is based on the trends of EU regional development in contrast to the previous strategy. The main goal of the new strategy is sustainable and long-term development of all regions of Moldova through the effective implementation of policies in this area and the potential of development of all areas of the country, which would reduce poverty and ensure decent living standards.
The main objectives of the National Strategy for Regional Development for 2013-2015 shall be achieved by improving legislation, supporting sustainable development of the regions and creation of polycentric urban systems, consolidating the capacity of regional development, reducing local, inter and inter-regional differences, developing and promoting integrated and joint planning in the regional development process.
The main priorities of regional development also include: provision of balanced urban development, modernization of water and sanitation systems, road infrastructure, assistance to small and medium-sized businesses as well as tourist attraction and energy efficiency.
