OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2013. Relations between Ukraine and Japan have assumed a character of broad and diverse cooperation, including active dialogue on important international issues, regional initiatives, expanding trade and economic cooperation, scientific and cultural relations, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Igor Prasolov informed during a meeting with the Parliamentary delegation of Japan.

He noted that Ukraine is interested in the growth of Japanese investments into the economy. The state implemented a wide range of measures during the years 2010-2012 aimed at stimulation of investment activities and financial support for the development of the national economy, including in the regional context.

Thus, the Minister recalled that from 1 January 2013, the Law of Ukraine "On stimulation of investment activity in priority sectors of the economy to create new jobs" came into force.

He also considers that additional opportunities for increasing investments into Ukrainian economy were ensured by the adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On Public-Private Partnership".

"In this regard, we expect that the Agreement on liberalization, promotion and protection of investments between Ukraine and Japan will soon provide more favorable conditions for the development of investment cooperation between the two countries and the expansion of trade and economic relations," Igor Prasolov said.

Also, according to the Minister, an effective tool for expanding bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation is an active work of the Coordinating Council for Economic Co-operation with Japan and the Committee on Business Cooperation with Ukraine of Japan Business Federation "Keidanren".

The Minister appreciated Japan provision of loans and grants, as part of "official development assistance", including the allocation of financial resources for the construction of a new terminal D of the Boryspil international airport and the project that expects realization, construction of a bridge across the Southern Bug in Mykolayiv.

In turn, Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Japan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Interparliamentary Relations with Ukraine Eisuke Mori, noted the importance of cooperation with Ukraine and expressed hope for its further expansion.

Representatives of the Japanese delegation noted the willingness of Japanese companies to increase investment in Ukrainian economy.

"We are very interested in the fact that such large companies as Olympus and Toshiba come into the market of Ukraine, and even better - they are open their production,” Igor Prasolov said.
