Delegation of Karelia Took Part in Exhibition of Aquaculture in Norway
OREANDA-NEWS. On August, 13 and 14th the delegation of Karelia led by Oleg Gromov, First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia for Economic Policy, took part in work of the 18th international exhibition of aquaculture Aqua Nor 2013 held in the Norwegian town of Trondheim. The delegation included Grigory Manuilov, Minister of Agriculture, Fish and Hunting Industry of the Republic of Karelia, heads and experts of fish farms and non-commercial partnerships of the republic.
Within the scope of the exhibition Oleg Gromov had a meeting with Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries of Norway Ms.Holmenfjord. Issues discussed during the meeting concerned cooperation between Norway and Karelia in the sphere of fishery and fish-breeding. As the parties have mentioned, cooperation in this sphere extends, and there are prospects for its further development.
A meeting with the management of Norwegian company Sjovik Group and Karelian Seafoods Inc. concerning implementation of the joint investment project has also taken place. The company has purchased a modernized fishing factory trawler Karelia II for Karelian Seafoods Inc. to catch ground fish, such as cod, haddock, pollack, halibut, perch, etc. in the area of Northeast Atlantic. According President of Sjovik Group Odd Kjell Sjovik, this project was a success, it has good results, and now the issue of further cooperation in the sphere of construction of a new fishing factory trawler is under consideration.
During the exhibition the delegation of Karelia has also met with representatives of Norwegian companies producing forages and technological equipment for fish-breeding, and has also visited several fish-breeding farms and fish-processing enterprises.
According to Oleg Gromov, First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia for Economic Policy, participation in such international events is necessary for further development of the branch.
The exhibition of Aqua Nor is the world's largest. It is held once in two years and presents the most advanced and efficient aquaculture technologies, as well as systems of fish feeding, fish health and protection.
