Moldovan, Iranian Officials Broach Economic Cooperation Relations
OREANDA-NEWS. August 21, 2013. Iranian Ambassador to Ukraine and Moldova Akbar Ghasemi Aliabadi visited the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), being accompanied by a group of Iranian journalists.
The participants in the meeting approached issues related to fostering cooperation relations between the representatives of business environment from the two states.
According to the CCI’s press service, Akbar Ghasemi Aliabadi made a brief presentation of his country. He noted that during the last period, Iran had recorded achievements in the development of machinery industry, agriculture, pharmaceutics etc. “The Moldovan-Iranian economic cooperation relations are not being turned to good account, but there are many opportunities. I believe that the private sector?s representatives from our countries would be interested in having cooperation possibilities in different areas. That is why, we ask for the CCI support,” the diplomat said.
CCI head Gheorghe Cucu familiarized the guests with the institution’s activity. He stressed that although the Moldovan chamber system was different from the one from Iran, the Moldovan CCI was open for cooperation with the Iranian Chamber of Commerce.
The sides discussed the possibility of organizing business visits to Moldova and Iran, participating in exhibitions and in other events designed for economic agents.
According to data put out by the National Statistics Bureau, the Moldovan-Iranian foreign trade (except for the Eastern districts) amounted to 1.22 million dollars in January-June 2013, remaining at the same level against the similar period of 2012. The export of goods was estimated at 0.05 million dollars in the first six months of 2013, down by 93.2 per cent against January-June 2012. At the same time, the goods imported by Moldova from Iran amounted to 1.17 million dollars, increasing by 38.7 per cent against the similar period of 2012.
