Moldova, China to Boost Cooperation in ICT Sector
OREANDA-NEWS. August 21, 2013. Information Technology and Communications Minister Pavel Filip has had a meeting with Chinese Deputy Industry and Information Technology Minister Liu Lihua in Beijing.
Pavel Filip and Liu Lihua exchanged opinions about the current stage of bilateral relations in information technology and communications sector. The officials ascertained that presently, the dialogue is limited to cooperation within the Moldovan-Chinese joint commission for economic cooperation and the international relevant institutions – the International Telecommunication Union and the Universal Postal Union.
In the context, to set a direct dialogue between the Moldovan and Chinese relevant institutions, it was agreed to create an inter-ministerial working group meant to work out a Moldovan-Chinese cooperation memorandum on information technology and communications.
Filip said that Moldova was interested in studying the Chinese ICT development model, especially, the regulation policies on the matter. To this end, there will be considered the opportunities of launching joint projects focused on the development of information society and the ICT industry, by drawing in direct investments and grants, setting private public partnerships, as well as by creating joint ventures and technological parks.
Filip said that Moldova, due to its geographical position, could become an attractive destination for the Chinese companies, which would place here service centres for the South-Eastern Europe and the CIS area. Presently, the Chinese producers of electronic devices are fully operating on the IT market in Moldova.
For his part, Liu Lihua stressed his country’s willingness to share its experience on the ICT sector. He backed the idea of promoting some joint projects in the field.
