Latvia Will Deepen Bilateral Relations with Sweden
OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2013. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, during the farewell visit of Mats Staffansson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Latvia, expressed gratitude for the contributions made so far and expressed readiness to further deepen bilateral relations in the fields of economic cooperation, tourism, culture and other sectors.
During the meeting, both parties shared the opinion that the current economic relations between the two countries are intense and dynamic. Prime Minister V.Dombrovskis emphasized that Sweden is one of the most important economic partners of Latvia, and therefore Latvia is willing to extend economic cooperation. The Prime Minister also pointed to the untapped potential in attracting the long-term foreign direct investments to the production and service sectors of Latvia, as well as to innovations and high-technology related segments.
Prime Minister V.Dombrovskis highly appreciated and expressed gratitude for Sweden's active support for launching of negotiations on Latvia's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Prime Minister also provided insight into preparations for the introduction of the euro in Latvia and current events relating to the budget.
Looking back at the accomplishments, Ambassador Mats Staffansson acknowledged that his work in Latvia has been active, interesting and he has gained rich experience. The Ambassador welcomed the economic growth in Latvia and expressed his support for attainment of objectives towards joining the euro area.
