OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2013. Trakai hosted the World Rowing Junior Championship attended by almost 800 sportsmen from 59 countries. The Lithuanian Rowing Federation expressed great acknowledgement to ORLEN Lietuva, thanks to which the rowing lanes were protected by donated marine booms.

Before the World Rowing Junior Championship in Trakai, ORLEN Lietuva transferred the marine booms to the organizers for a symbolic price of one litas. The booms were used to protect the rowing lanes from waves and foreign boats.

ORLEN Lietuva, a partner of Lithuania’s presidency of the EU Council, decided to contribute to promotion of Lithuania’s name by giving the equipment to the Lithuanian Rowing Federation, to facilitate a proper organization of the championships. Such equipment is necessary according to the requirements of the International Federation of Rowing Associations (FISA).

The 700-meter boom is deployed along the widest and most vulnerable section of the rowing venue.

“This is a very valuable support to the federation. Having deployed the booms, all participants of the championships now have conditions for the safe and fair competition even with the stronger side wind,” said Edmundas Daukantas, vice-president of the Lithuanian Rowing Federation and the chair of the Events Commission. He also noted that FISA and many managers of the teams, who participated in the Trakai Championship, gave high marks to the organization of the event.

“We are very pleased that we can contribute to organization of the championships. ORLEN Lietuva is committed to achieve its economic goals as well as to share its success with local communities and support important venues and projects on National Level. We are also proud to be a partner of cultural institutions, sports teams and traffic safety promotion events,” said Viktoras Vasilavicius, ORLEN Lietuva’s Deputy General Director for Operations. He, together with the FISA representatives, awarded the junior rower medallists.
