Zaporozhstal Sets up Historic Record in Saving of Natural Gas
OREANDA-NEWS. Integrated Iron and Steel Works “Zaporozhstal” in June 2013 consumed 16 million m3 of natural gas for production needs. As compared with 2012, this figure on the average was around 30 million m3, in 2008 — about 57 million m3 on the average per month. Such saving became possible because of implementation at Integrated Iron and Steel Works “Zaporozhstal” of Metinvest Group’s Program on energy saving and implementation of total consumption control of raw materials and energy resources at all production levels.
“Within 7 month of 2013 the Steel Works saved around 24,2 million cubic meters of natural gas during manufacturing of products. In particular, in June, the consumption of natural gas was decreased in steelmaking up to 27 cubic meters per the ton of melted steel, for comparison, last year during the same period this figure of consumption was 43,4 cubic meters per ton” — pointed out General director of Integrated Iron and Steel Works “Zaporozhstal” Rostislav Shurma.
Decreasing of natural gas consumption at Integrated Iron and Steel Works “Zaporozhstal” took place because of implementation of range of measures: implementation of technology of pulverized coal injection in the blast furnace process, the use of coke oven gas as alternative type of fuel at TPP and slabbing mill (full replacement of natural gas), and also decreasing of natural gas consumption in open hearth furnace shop (implementation of fuel free blowing technology).
