Q2 2013: Exciting Results for Ukrainian TCG Market
OREANDA-NEWS. According to the results of Q2 2013, almost all the sectors of the TCG market increased. The rate of growth somewhat dropped against the beginning of the year, however, the market grew by 13% compared to the same period last year and amounted to UAH 9.8 billion.
In the first half of 2013, the MDA market showed growth not only the weak beginning of 2012 (+19%), but also against the successful start of 2011. The market volume reached UAH 2.4 billion in Q2 and made up to 4.6 billion in the first half of 2013. In general, Q2 as well as the first six months of the year saw growth in all the MDA groups.
The sector saw growth mostly due to the contribution of the refrigerators and washing machines. The growth rates of the tumble dryers and freezers were the fastest in the first half of the year 2013. The slowest growth came from microwave ovens and hobs.
Telecommunications: Smartphones continue to lead sector growth
The Telecommunications (Telco) market recorded UAH 2 billion in Q2 2013, which is 16% more than in the same period last year. Smartphones were still in great demand and demonstrated impressive growth. Other decline: mobile telephones, fax machines and landline phones all witnessed drops.
Small Domestic Appliances: Food preparation products are star performers
The SDA market demonstrated growth of 15% in Q2 2013 against the same quarter of last year. The fastest growing segments during this period were food preparation, meat mincers and food steamers. Vacuum cleaners, a key segment, also experienced healthy growth.
Information Technology: Media tablets dominate
In Q2 2013, the IT market increased by 14% against the same period last year and made UAH 2.5 billion. Media tablets were still the fastest growing segment .These products partially replaced devices such as e-books and laptops, which could be one of the reasons why these groups of products suffered declines. Among other groups that showed growth were pointing and keying devices. The latter grew due to the demand for docking stations with keyboards for media tablets. Storage devices also increased, while the display segment saw a decline.
Consumer Electronics: The tendency seen during previous periods continues
According to Q2 2013 results, the CE sector showed 6% growth and made UAH 1.4 billion. The general increase of the sector was caused mostly by the growth in sales of flat-panel TVs. Meanwhile, sales of TV sets with the LED technology compensate for the drop in the sales of plasma panels and TV sets without LED technology. Besides, sales of memory cards and USB memory rose in Q2 against the same period of 2012. Game consoles and DVD players saw heavy declines.
Photo Market: SLR cameras fall in price
In Q2 2013, the market of digital cameras showed decrease of 8% compared to the same period last year. Sales of SLR cameras kept increasing, though the average price fell in comparison to Q2 2012. Thus, the market trend did not change: SLR cameras are replacing compact cameras step by step.
Office Equipment: In decline again
The Office equipment market volume returned to negative figures in Q2 2013 (-4%) vs. Q2 2012. This tendency is caused by the decline of printers. Multifunctional devices remained stable in Q2 2013 while scanners showed increases for the first time in a while.
Summary
Most sectors of the TCG market recorded increasing figures for the second quarter in a row. During the first six months of the year, the demand for Major and Small Domestic Appliances, where almost all the groups grew, remained at the same level. The trends for digital products also continued – customers were attracted by various promotional events and the launch of new ultra-modern technical devices. After a difficult last year, the TCG market in Ukraine exceeded even the good figures of 2011.
