New Wind Farm Opened Near Tallinn
OREANDA-NEWS. August 16, 2013. State-owned energy giant Eesti Energia and 4 Energia, a Norwegian-Estonian renewable fuels venture, have opened a 18-turbine wind park on Pakri peninsula, 40 km west of Tallinn.
The turbines tower 135 meters from the ground to the highest point, and produce 2.5 megawatts of energy each, the two companies said in a press release.
Pakri peninsula is a popular location for wind turbines as it is a shelf of land 20 meters above sea level. 4 Energia already had eight turbines in the area.
The town of Paldiski, population 4,000, on the peninsula, is now the first town in Estonia to use 100 percent renewable energy, according to Eesti Energia.
