NIAEP - ASE Sign Contract with Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission
OREANDA-NEWS. NIAEP-ASE and the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission signed a contract for development of documents containing the feasibility evaluation and environmental impact assessment of the Rooppur NPP site (the People’s Republic of Bangladesh). In the contract signed provisions are also made for necessary surveys and ecological studies for the first nuclear plant construction project in Bangladesh.
The signing ceremony took place during the International Industrial Forum “ATOMEXPO 2013” held in St. Petersburg on 26 th -28 th June. Mr. Valery Limarenko, NIAEP-ASE president, and Mr. A.S.M. Firoz, Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, signed the contract.
According to Mr. Limarenko this contract means transition to long-term cooperation in creating a really new industry in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. According to Mr. Limarenko the next steps will be two more contracts of the preparatory period signed for development of the technical project and initial construction works.
Mr. A.S.M. Firoz, Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, in his turn, noted that the contract was very important: “Construction of a nuclear power plant has long been a dream of the People of the Republic and after the contract is signed the Bangladesh people will see tangible results”.
In the beginning, cooperation with Bangladesh was based on the Agreement on peaceful nuclear power application cooperation signed by the Government of Russian Federation and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on the 21 st May 2010. The parties launched the Rooppur NPP construction project on the 2 nd November 2011 after the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in NPP construction on the territory of Bangladesh had been signed .
