OREANDA-NEWS. With the aim of encouraging sports and cultural activities, this month the Vale Foundation, in partnership with private Mozambican entities, opened the 25 de Setembro Sports Centre. Located in the community of 25 de Setembro in the town of Moatize, the complex has a soccer field with synthetic turf, two blocks of stands, an athletics track and changing rooms. The centre also has multi-use rooms, which can be adapted for other sports or cultural activities. Besides the community of 25 de Setembro, the sports centre will also serve residents of other districts of Moatize.

The Vale Foundation will be responsible for maintaining and managing the centre, supported by a partnership with the public and private sectors. The centre's opening ceremony brought together around 2,000 people, who watched folklore group performances and a soccer match between teams composed of Vale employees in Mozambique and teachers in Moatize.

Our activities in Mozambique

We have coal operations in Moatize, Mozambique. To expand our coal production in the country and leverage our presence in Africa, we are investing to expand the Nacala Corridor, which transports our goods. The USD 4.4 billion project will rehabilitate the existing railway (which goes through Mozambique and Malawi) and build another two new stretches, including a final segment to a new maritime terminal in Nacala-a-Velha.
