System Environmental Control Established at TANECO
OREANDA-NEWS. The environmental quality monitoring is carried out at JSC “TANECO” on a regular basis. The monitoring is performed by the experts of the industrial environmental monitoring laboratory.
In accordance with the approved analytical control plans the experts of the industrial environmental monitoring laboratory run monthly about five thousand studies of air, waste and natural waters and soils. Control of the air is performed both at the industrial site area of the Oil Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex, as well as at the border of the common sanitary protection zone of the Nizhnekamsk industrial hub. The monitoring is carried out for 26 pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and dioxides, sulfur oxides, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, saturated hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, xylenes), phenol and formaldehyde.
Each week, a mobile “Gazelle” van based ecological station monitors the state of the environment at villages of Alan, Ishteryakovo and Klyatle that are located in the “TANECO”'s activities affected area. Additional studies are carried out in the area in the event of adverse meteorological conditions. The accuracy and reliability of the tests performed are guaranteed by modern equipment, which the mobile laboratory is fitted with, and high-skilled laboratory workers. Performance of the air sampling and analyses results processing are carried out in an automatic mode. Following the examination the correctness of chromatographic analyses processing is checked and a report is made, which is sent via Internet to the central laboratory of the Oil Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex. In the automatic mode the information about the state of the air also comes from a fixed out-station.
The automated monitoring system allows performing round the clock assessment of the environmental situation in the controlled area, predicting the pollution dynamics depending on weather parameters, identifying the sources of emissions and creating archives of environmental data.
There were no violations of the air quality in the territory of JSC “TANECO” as well as on the border of the sanitary protection area resulting from specific emissions of the Nizhnekamsk Oil Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex recorded in July 2013.
Monitoring of natural surface water and groundwater is carried out on a regular basis. Samples for analysis are taken from seven monitoring wells around the perimeter of the Nizhnekamsk Oil Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex, eight wells around the landfill of JSC “TANECO”'s industrial wastes, as well as from the Alanko, Martysh and Tungucha rivers. Presence of more than 20 chemicals is defined to determine the background pollution level. These are primarily oil products, phenol, formaldehyde, aromatic compounds and heavy metals (iron, copper, chromium, zinc).
