OREANDA-NEWS. August 08, 2013. The project of EU technical assistance to coordinate reforms in the field of justice worth 10 million euro was officially lunched in Moldova. The event was attended by the Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim, the Head of EU Delegation in Moldova Dirk Schubel etc.

It is planned that funds allocated to Moldova will be directed for implementation of 4 projects within 3 year-term that will help to implement a large-scale program of reforms in the field of justice. In particular, within frameworks of the technical assistance project, 2.8 million euro will be spent on coordination and implementation of the judicial reform strategy to reform the justice system, 2 million will be used for the projects in support of the pre-trial investigation, 3 million euro- to improve efficiency, accountability and transparency of the judiciary in Moldova, and another 2 million euro are allocated to support the prison system, probation and rehabilitation.

 It is planned that implementation of these projects will allow creating fair, effective, independent, and transparent justice system with zero tolerance for corruption. In general, EU allocates Moldova 60 million euro for implementation of reforms in the field of justice. The Prime Minister Iurie Leanca noted the importance of reforms in justice, stressing that the time to move from discussions to actions to increase the credibility of the justice system has come. Iurie Leanca said that corruption in the justice system undermines confidence in future of the state and it is not possible to reconcile to situation in this area.

According to him, to fight corruption in justice Moldova should use the experience of foreign countries. He also stressed the importance of borrowing EU experience in this field.
