SGCC Power Load Hits Record High
OREANDA-NEWS. August 08, 2013. China encountered a wide range of hot weather: most regions South of Yangtze River, Chongqing and other places’ temperatures reached above 35 Celsius degrees, which increased the grid load sharply.
According to the data from National Power Control Center, the daily power generating records has been broken twice on July 24 and 25, with the highest of 16,867GWh; and the SGCC’s power load hit a new high on July 25 with 627GW. Three regional power grids of North, East and Central China, and seven provincial power grids of Jibei, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Hunan all created new records.
Facing the heavy power load, SGCC scientifically organized the grid operation, fully took advantages of large power grid and strengthened the inter-provincial and cross-regional power trades to ensure power supply. At present, the national grid is in stable operation.
North, East and Central China’s Power Dispatching Sub-centers scientifically controlled and optimized the grid operation mode, coordinated the power transactions and averted peaks with the use of load differences between provinces and cities. At the same time, they strengthened the reserve capacity management, enhanced dispatching discipline and highlighted the monitoring of overloaded sections to ensure the power generation balance to be controllable and in control.
Beijing power grid’s load reached the maximum of the year with 16.04GW. The State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company started the ? level emergency response to the high temperature orange warning issued by the professional Meteorological Observatory, which was to monitor the operation by regional and municipal grid control centers, strengthen the inspection on important power transmission equipment and increase 95598 customer service representatives. The company also prepared 247 rescue teams, 4539 personnel and 16 power-generating vehicles for emergency issues.
With the heavy power load, the State Grid Jibei Electric Power Company has further improved the power grid and supply contingency plan, strengthened on-grid security analysis, deepened the lean grid repairs, dealt with power breakdowns timely and made great efforts to shorten the power failure interval. At present, Jibei grid has aligned all thermal power units into operation to ensure the adequate power supply.
On July 24, Shanghai’s power situation was basically stable with 19GW power generated locally and 10.63GW power from elsewhere, and keeping a reserve of 1.6GW. On more than 20 days in July with high temperature, the daily fault repair calls of 95598 declined 9% than last year, thanks to the full implementation of reliability upgrading project of low-voltage distribution network. At present, every day, there are about 3000 frontline emergency repair personnel standing by for 24 hours.
As of July 24, Zhejiang has accumulatively purchased 6692GWh power, with an increase of 41.6% than last year. At present, Zhejiang grid’s largest power supply capacity is about 53.5GW. As the neighboring provinces are also in high temperature, which makes the temporary power purchase very difficult, the contradiction between supply and demand is obvious. But the high temperature will continue according to the weather forecast. Zhejiang decided to start the grade B orderly power supply program from July 25 to avert the peak of 2GW and give priority to residential and important customers’ power consumption.
Fighting against Hunan’s sharp shift from drought to flood and the late hot dry weather, the SGCC Hunan Electric Power Company scientifically adjusted the grid operation mode and actively strived for power purchase to protect the peak summer power supply. At present, 37 units of Hunan’s 13 thermal power plants with a total installed capacity of 15.62GW are all in fully loaded operation and hydropower plants are storing water and shaving the peaks in order to respond to a further rise of power load. Meanwhile, the company actively coordinated the power purchase power into Hunan. Recently, the daily trade volume from the Three Gorges and north-to-south UHV project, has reached 56GWh.
