Zaporizhstal II&SW Examines Key Factors for Power Saving in Region
OREANDA-NEWS. An open staff meeting on the issue of power saving in the region and on the excess heat delivery from “Zaporizhstal” II&SW for needs of Zaporizhzhya citizens was held on the 5th of August 2013 at the premises of “Zaporizhstal” II&SW under the joint management of the Works General Director Rostislav Shurma and the Deputy Chairman of Zaporizhzhya Regional State Administration Petro Goncharuk.
Petro Goncharuk pointed out, that in 2013 natural gas consumption limits by Zaporizhzhya citizens amount in 322 million cubic meters, and at the moment there are 92 million cubic meters remaining.
"Last year Zaporizhzhya region saved around 13% of natural gas. For the first six months of this year this number has already reached 18%, while it should be 50%. In a situation like this, the issue of natural gas saving becomes one of the major ones. “Zaporizhstal” II&SW holds a leading position in energy saving and so far it is the only enterprise, that delivers its excess heat for needs of the citizens. Due to the receipt of the excess heat from “Zaporizhstal” the city was able to cut the consumption of the natural gas, which resulted in saving 2.6 million hryvnyas for the city budget. Besides, due to this excess heat, there is no tariff raising for the population, which is very important", said Petro Goncharuk.
It was also emphasized during the meeting, that at Zaporizhstal Integrated Iron & Steel Works, there is an active program of Metinvest Group aimed to implement energy saving projects and introduce complete control of energy and raw material expenditure on all production levels. A lot of attention is paid to the issue of the energy consumption cut in the process of manufacturing finished metal products at “Zaporizhstal” II&SW and to the issue of implementing the energy saving project, according to which part of the thermal energy produced from the energy resources of “Zaporizhstal” is delivered for needs of hot water supply of the Ordzhonikidzevskiy and a part of the Leninskiy city districts of Zaporizhzhya.
"Starting with the 1st of June, the Works has resumed delivery of thermal energy into the municipal heating system. The amount of thermal energy delivered for needs of the city’s hot water supply by the 1st of August was equal to 15 thousand Gcal. This resulted in the cut of natural gas consumed by the company group “GTS” (municipal heating system) equal to more than 2 million cubic meters", told the General Director of “Zaporizhstal” II&SW Rostislav Shurma.
Particularly in the first six months of 2013, the Works reduced fuel and electricity consumption by 6.4% (23.344 GJ/t for the first six months of 2012 against to 21.845 GJ/t for the first six months of 2013). In addi-tion to that, “Zaporizhstal” II&SW set a record in monthly natural gas consumption in the process of steel production — this number was reduced three times: under 16 million cubic meters compared to 52-56 million cubic meters in the previous year.
