Moldova Has Record-Breaking Wheat Crop for Last 10 Years
OREANDA-NEWS. August 07, 2013. Vasile Bumacov, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, told about wheat crops 2013 during the press conference this Monday. He says that average wheat productivity made up 3.1 tons per hectare, while over the last 3 years average productivity usually was 2.2 tons per hectare.
About 40% (400 thousand tons) of wheat was aimed for eating, the rest was used as forage. In particular, Vasile Bumacov states that about 340 thousand tons of wheat would be used to provide Moldova with food safety; about 160 thousand tons would be exported; 400 thousand tons would be used in livestock sector; 30 thousand tons would go to the state reserve; and 70 thousand tons would be planted to get new crops next year.
This year the wheat crop was record-breaking. It was caused by the favorable weather conditions and modern agro-equipment bought thanks to state subsidies.
