OREANDA-NEWS. Toshiba Corporation announced that it has launched photocouplers, "TLP2361" and "TLP2161", that combine 15Mbps high-speed communication with low power consumption. Mass production is scheduled to start in August, 2013.

The products incorporate Toshiba's original infrared LED. The LED's high output and reliability secures low input current operations and reduces threshold input current by approximately 54% compared with equivalent products. This LED's stable output under high ambient temperature guarantees operation at up to 125 degrees Celsius, the industry's highest class of operation. Fabricated with Bi-CMOS process, supply current per channel is lowered to 1mA (max.), which cuts total supply current by approximately 66% for "TLP2361", and approximately 60% for "TLP2161".

"TLP2361", with a small SO6 package, achieves clearances and creepage distance of 5mm (min.) and complies with the reinforced insulation class of overseas safety standard (EN60747-5-5). "TLP2161", incorporating two circuits in SO8 package, reduces mounting area by approximately 40%, compared with two units of "TLP2361", contributing to downsizing of applications and reduction of PCB cost.
