Moldovan Railway Joins Viking International Transportation System
OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2013. An inter-modal corridor for freight transportation by sea and train through the Viking container train will be opened in Moldova.
The state enterprise Moldova’s Railway joined the agreement on the Viking transports system. The routes goes through Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and makes connection between the network of containers transportation lines of the Baltic Region, Black, Mediterranean and Caspian Seas. Starting from today, Moldova will be included in this transports system as well, via Ocnita, Balti, Ungheni in the north and the Giurgiulesti port in the south.
Transports and Roads Infrastructure Minister Vasile Botnari has said that the transportation costs will drop, and new foreign transit flows will be attracted in this way.
The Viking project resides in the freight transportation through platforms for great-tonnage containers, and allows reducing the duration of containers’ transportation and processing, as well as the born costs.
