OREANDA-NEWS. Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen has begun his working trip to the North of the republic intending to visit three of its regions from Belomorsk region.

In the morning Alexander Khudilainen has visited Matkozhnensky hydropower station in the settlement of Sosnovets to inspect the course it is recovery after flooding in last August. Then the heavy rain has washed away the railroad bed, flooded the dike and destroyed the wash of Matkozhnensky brook. The main generator hall and process compartments were partially flooded. Maintenance of electrosupply of the settlement of Sosnovets and restoration of the equipment became a priority task for workers of the hydroelectric power station.

Director of the Cascade of the Vyg hydropower station TGK-1 Inc. Vitaly Kozlov has told that lots of repair works was accomplished within six months concerning the core and auxiliary equipment, hydraulic engineering constructions and premises of the station.

The main issue that concerned Head of Karelia was what is done to avoid such situations in the future. According to Vitaly Kozlov, the agreement with local road engineers on joint monitoring of the situation has been signed. The project of restoration of the washed away road to the fish factory has been developed. The diesel engine-generator which in case of emergency will provide the settlement with electric power is established at the station.

Alexander Khudilainen has stated his high opinion of work of power engineers, having mentioned that much has been done at the station, and measures the taken will allow to avoid recurrence of the last year’s emergency situation.

Such situations should serve as a lesson to all of us. One year ago, thanks to the competence of professionals, nobody has suffered and it was possible to avoid more severe consequences. Now training maneuvers take place at all hydropower stations to make every employee aware what to do in case of emergency, - Head of Karelia said.

Today Matkozhnensky hydropower station works in a regular mode. Construction works at the annex and maintenance of the main generator hall of Matkozhnensky hydropower station now proceed. They will be completed by the end of August.

Head of the republic has also visited petroglyphs of the White Sea, a famous monument of primitive culture. To preserve this monument the Ministry of Culture of Karelia has developed a special project Pages of the Stone Book within which scope the primitive art museum of petroglyphs of the White Sea and Lake Onega will be established in Belomorsk region.
