E.ON Announced New CFO
OREANDA-NEWS. E.ON SE’s long-standing CFO, Marcus Schenck, has informed the Chairman of the Supervisory Board that he does not wish to have his employment contract extended. “It wasn’t an easy step to take after 7 years as CFO of E.ON. I have not decided against E.ON but rather in favor of Goldman Sachs. The chance to return to the Investment Banking Division in London as a partner with Goldman Sachs and take over the management of Investment Banking Services for the EMEA region offers a great opportunity to work with major international clients.“ Marcus Schenck will join Goldman Sachs as a member of the Investment Banking Division’s Global Operating Committee.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Werner Wenning, regretted Marcus Schenck’s decision: “E.ON owes a lot to Marcus Schenck for what he has achieved over many years. Under his leadership as CFO, the divestment program was completed successfully beyond everyone’s expectations. At the same time, he has driven the strategically important entry into two new regions outside the EU, thereby opening up new growth opportunities. Thanks to the determined and significant reduction of the Group’s debt over the past three years, Marcus Schenck has secured the company’s financial leeway.”
As the chairman of the executive team, Johannes Teyssen thanked Marcus Schenck for the outstanding cooperation in what was not an easy period for the energy industry and E.ON: “As a colleague in our executive team, Marcus Schenck has been extremely committed and has contributed a lot also in human terms.”
The Executive Committee of the E.ON SE Supervisory Board has unanimously decided to propose that the Supervisory Board appoint Klaus Schafer as the successor to Marcus Schenck. Klaus Schafer is currently the Chairman of the Board of Management of E.ON Global Commodities and can look back on 17 years with E.ON. In 1996 he joined E.ON’s predecessor company Viag, where he last held a senior position in Group Controlling. After the merger with Veba he was in charge of Corporate Strategy at E.ON for three years before he was appointed commercial director of Thuga in 2003. In 2006, Klaus Schafer became the Chairman of the Board of Management of E.ON Sales & Trading. A year later he was appointed CEO of E.ON Italia. In 2010 Klaus Schafer became Chairman of the Board of Management of E.ON Ruhrgas and from 2011 also of E.ON Energy Trading in a combined function.
Klaus Schafer will take over from Marcus Schenck in October 2013. This, Werner Wenning said, would ensure a smooth transition in this key function: “Klaus Schafer knows the Group extremely well both at national and international level. He successfully managed the extremely complex merger of E.ON Ruhrgas, a very traditional company, and E.ON’s energy trading business to form E.ON Global Commodities with a lot of sure instinct.“
