This year marks the first time in the Congress and Exhibition’s history that a joint international conference “ICSOBA - Aluminium of Siberia” will be held at the exhibition.

Attending the conference will be representatives of over 150 companies from 27 countries as well as international experts, engineers and scientists, all of whom are engaged in developing global and Russian metallurgy. They will take part in the Congress which will include the following conferences: “Aluminium of Siberia”, “Gold of Siberia”, “Metallurgy of Non-Ferrous and Rare Metals”.

The Congress will cover a wide agenda including a focus on waste management and the development of energy-saving and environmental technologies. In addition to the traditional conference topics, this year two further segments will also be addressed: “Modern technologies of mining” and “Bauxites”.

During the event, two significant round-table discussions will take place: “Higher education modernization” which will focus on metal industry-oriented education and training and “Adoption of innovative technologies for industrial waste processing”. Both of these topics will be discussed in detail throughout the event.

In addition, a series of lectures will be delivered at the Congress by the world’s foremost scientists, including: Prof. Barry Welch (“Constraints and options for reducing energy consumption in aluminium smelting”), Prof. Halvor Kvande (“Electrolytes of the modern design and Soderberg cells and methods of their control”), Prof. Petr Polyakov (“Aluminium reduction technology”).

During the Congress and Exhibition, RUSAL will present its latest developments including: energy-efficient technologies, Al-Zr (aluminum-zirconium) alloys production, red mud recycling and acid-based technology for low-grade raw materials processing.

The honour of opening V International Congress & Exhibition “Non-Ferrous Metals-2013” will be shared by representatives of the four conferences: XXXI ICSOBA, XIX Aluminium of Siberia, VII Metallurgy of Non-Ferrous and Rare Metals, IX Gold of Siberia.

“The Congress “Non-Ferrous Metals” has become a significant event in the economic life of our country. This year the forum has been significantly enhanced by the joint XXXI ICSOBA Conference which will increase representation from the member countries and raise its status worldwide. Interest in the event has exceeded our expectations. We currently anticipate that about 800 delegates will take part in the congress - a clear sign of the growing role the Congress has as an international discussion forum,” said UC RUSAL’s Technical Director Viktor Mann.
