OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2013. Euromoney, the world’s leading business magazine, names SEB the best bank in Estonia.

“In the banking sector, there are two recognised international prizes: the titles of the best bank of the year, awarded by The Banker and Euromoney, respectively. Although we have held the The Banker’s prize in Estonia since 2007, we have been acknowledged by Euromoney for the first time. Commanding both such prized honours at the same time shows that SEB has been making the right choices, both in the lead-up to and when coming out of the economic crisis,” said Riho Unt, Chairman of the Management Board at SEB, conveying his delight with the distinction.

In terms of SEB’s strengths, Euromoney cited success in its work to provide consultancy to businesses: for instance, late last year the bank carried out one of the most ambitious consultancy projects in Estonia, which included visits to more than 900 small and medium-size businesses. Those making the assessment were furthermore impressed by SEB’s progress in adopting mobile banking and also by the fact that the bank is the first large enterprise in Estonia to provide an employer’s pension to all its staff.

Euromoney announced the best ranking in the Awards for Excellence 2013 competition at the Awards gala, one of the most prestigious events in the banking sector, held in London on 11 July. This year, Wells Fargo was picked as the world’s best bank. All the winners are given mentions in the July issue of Euromoney. When awarding prizes, Euromoney compares banks’ financial performance, growth figures and development activities over the past 12 months.
