Vyksa Steel Works Certified to Deliver Sheets for Ship-Building Indust
OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping (RMRS) issued Vyksa Steel Works (JSC VSW, Nizhny Novgorod region, a part of United Metallurgical Company, CJSC OMK) a certificate according to which the enterprise is acknowledged as a manufacturer of sheet metal ranging from standard and high-strength steel of A, В, D, А32, D32, A36, D36, A40, D40 categories and thicknesses of 12 - 25 mm for the ship-building industry according to GOST R52927.
Inspections at Vyksa Steel Works started in October 2012. Within the activities held, regulations and specifications were developed at the works, test batches of sheets were produced and a series of tests of samples were conducted in the VSW central laboratory and at the facilities of Okskaya Sudoverf JSC (Navashino, Nizhny Novgorod region, a part of VBTH, shipping division of UCL Holding transportation group). The test results demonstrated complete compliance of wide sheet metal produced by VSW with the requirements of the Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping. Products in compliance with the RMRS certificate will be manufactured at Heavy Plate Mill 5000.
VSW executive director Sergei Philippov said, “Heavy Plate Mill 5000 at VSW is a unique complex which is able to produce wide steel sheets not only for the pipe industry, but also for ship and machine-building and nuclear power industries and other metal-intensive branches. A certificate from the Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping will enable the company to enter a new market and deliver steel sheets to domestic companies.”
An advanced sheet rolling work at the Vyksa Steel Works, Heavy Plate Mill 5000, was launched in November 2011. The mill is able to roll sheets of up to 4,850-mm width and К52, К56, К60 and К65 strength class (the enterprise produces no less than 100 combinations of standard sizes and strength classes). The results prove the possibility of producing sheets of up to X120 strength class. Wide sheets manufactured at Mill 5000 can also be used to produce heavy special vehicles and offshore platforms for ice class and construct engineering objects to be utilized under severe climatic conditions.
