Lesprom Network: Russia Is Losing Wood Markets in Asia
OREANDA-NEWS. July 18, 2013. In the 1Q 2013, Russia has decreased logs supply to China by 21.1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, China’s share in Russian wood export fell to 50%. Russia is losing its position in the Asian wood market, in the 1Q of 2013, logs supplies to South Korea and Japan decreased by 35.8% and 19.1%, respectively, according to the report ‘’Wood export from Russia in the 1 Q 2013’’ released by Analytical Service of Lesprom Network.
According to the report, wood export to Finland from Russia grew by 96.8%, and in January of 2013 the export volume to Finland almost equaled with export to China.
The number of Russian wood exporting companies decreased by 22% during the year, while the share of the top 15 suppliers increased by 12 percentage points.
In January-March of 2013, Russian timber fell in price: with growth of the volume by 3.4%, the value of export fell by 12%.The highest average price in the 1Q of 2013 was for logs supplied to Japan, the lowest - for logs supplied to Finland.
