OREANDA-NEWS. Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a 100% subsidiary of Daimler AG, is celebrating its first production anniversary: The 5,000th truck of the BharatBenz brand has rolled off the assembly line in Chennai. The anniversary truck is a heavy-duty BharatBenz 2523C construction truck with 25 tons gross vehicle weight and an output of 230 hp. DICV launched the series production of BharatBenz trucks with this model in June 2012.

“From the start of production and market launch of our medium-duty and heavy-duty models to the first industry awards: We have achieved a great deal”, says Marc Llistosella, Managing Director and CEO of DICV. “However, we continue to set our sights on more. We will consistently expand our dealer network and product portfolio and will be offering a total of 17 models under the BharatBenz brand by 2014.”

The medium-duty trucks from 9 to 12 tons and the heavy-duty trucks from 25 to 31 tons are already being sold on the market. Customers can choose between nine different models.

In addition to BharatBenz trucks for India, DICV has been producing FUSO trucks for selected export markets in Asia and Africa since May 2013. In doing so, the two subsidiaries Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) are working hand in hand under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia.

Dr. Albert Kirchmann, Head of Daimler Trucks Asia and MFTBC President & CEO: “We are working as a unified force in strengthening our presence in the growth markets in Asia and Africa and tapping into new sales potential. Our two main production hubs in Kawasaki, Japan, and Chennai, India, will play a key role in our growth strategy moving ahead.”
