OREANDA-NEWS. July 17, 2013. Fifty-two parents, who in June concluded a children’s insurance agreement at SEB, collected EUR 1,500 for safe house and substitute home children, which will be used for water safety prevention work.

“In Estonia, there are about 1,200 children who, for different reasons, are living without parental care. Often the reasons are social problems, but every year many children lose their parents as a result of an accident. Looking at this sad statistic, we had a desire to appreciate responsible parents who ensure their children’s material wellbeing, even when an accident happens to them. In June, we transferred an amount equal to the first payment of the children’s insurance agreement to the welfare of the children of safe houses and substitute homes,” explained Indrek Holst, Head of SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus.

“The EUR 1,500 collected by parents is a valuable contribution to this summer’s project, the purpose of which is to improve water safety related knowledge of the children and staff of safe houses and substitute homes. As a result of the project, children can acknowledge water-related risks and therefore hopefully avoid problems, but even more important is that they can provide adequate help in a dangerous situation. If knowledge shared during this training series helps to save at least one person from drowning, the donors have done a multiple good deed,” said Triin Lumi, Chief Executive of SEB Heategevusfond, expressing her gratitude.

Each year about 60 people drown in Estonia and SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus also has to pay indemnities for drowning-related insured events every year.
