OREANDA-NEWS.  July 16, 2013. The project “Feasibility study on flood risk management” was discussed at the Environment Ministry today. Attending the event was also the representative of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Moldova, senior adviser on investments Lionel Rapaille. The sides set investment prospects in the environmental infrastructure.

Deputy Environment Minister Lazar Chirica has stressed the need and importance for Moldova of the concerned project, for which the EIB will grant two million euros. Chirica assured the investor that the Environment Ministry would do its utmost, so that the project be successfully carried out in the planned period (18 months).

The implementation of the project will help reduce natural disasters triggered by floods, which hit people and assets, through preventive actions in the most vulnerable regions. The project will start next September, and during 18 months, a master-plan will be worked out for the protection and prevention of floods for all Moldova’s territory, including the Transnistrian region.

The EIB expert said the Environment Ministry should decided on which agency will implement the project, either “Apele Moldovei” (Moldova’s Waters) or the State Hydro-Meteorological Service, and also establish the specifications. Once all the technical details are set, the cooperation agreement between the Environment Ministry and the European Investment Bank is to be signed.
