OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2013. The Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), in cooperation with the Economic Agency of the Chinese embassy in Moldova, today organised a presentation of the 114th issue of the China Biennial Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), which is to be carried out in September 2013.

Over 50 entrepreneurs, representatives of business support organisations and state institutions attended the event.

At the event’s opening, CCI chairman Gheorghe Cucu stressed China’s interest towards its cooperation with Moldova in various sectors. ”Lately, the Moldovan entrepreneurs have been actively participating in the exhibitions carried out in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, thing that allowed them to promote themselves on the Chinese market and to find new partners. On 3-7 July 2013, the CCI organised the participation of Moldovan entrepreneurs, with a collective stand, in the Xth issue of the International Technical-Scientific Exhibition in Northern China.

The dimension and the innovative nature of the Chinese exhibitions are really great and of high appreciation. They are being attended by thousands of producers and suppliers from all over the world. I am confident that the Canton Fair China Import and Export Fair will stir up the businessmen’s interest and will have a positive impact on them,” Cucu said.

Deputy Economics Minister Dumitru Godoroja welcomed the organisation of the meeting and presented the dynamic of the Moldovan-Chinese economic ties, stressing that, presently, 19 companies with Chinese capital were registered in Moldova. Godoroja urged Chinese entrepreneurs to be active, to invest in the Moldovan free economic zones and parks, including by participating in privatisation projects.

The economic and commercial counsellor of the Chinese embassy to Moldova, Xu Tongkai, underscored that the Canton Fair was one of the greatest events of this kind in Asia, to which, about 150,000 types of products were exhibited. As many as 24,746 participants and over 200,000 visitors from 180 countries attended the event in 2012 and the cost of the signed contracts were estimated at about 36 billion dollars.

According to data put by the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova’s trade turnover with China was of 149,4 million dollars in January-April 2013, thus, increasing by 22.2 per cent against the same period of 2012. The goods export reached the figure of 1,3 million dollars in January-April 2013, which is up by 62.5 per cent compared to the same period of 2012. The goods import stood at 148,1 million dollars in January-April 2013, going up by 24 per cent against the same period of 2012.
