OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2013. Deutsche Post DHL, the world's leading postal and logistics group, continues to enhance its efforts to promote education and job opportunities around the world. In Peru, the company signed an agreement with SOS Children’s Villages to develop employment training programs for Peruvian youth living in SOS Children’s Villages.

This new agreement increases the number of partnerships between Deutsche Post DHL and SOS Children’s Villages worldwide to over 10 countries. In addition, Deutsche Post DHL is also renewing its support of Teach For through its local partner, Ensena Peru. Teach For All is a global network of independent national organizations which recruit university graduates and young professionals to commit to teach for at least two years in high-need schools and to work throughout their lives, both within and outside of education, to address the root causes of educational need.

"Improving opportunities on education and employability of youth around the global is one of the major challenges nowadays – both for society as a whole and for corporate citizens like Deutsche Post DHL," said Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL. "With the extension of our partnership with SOS Children’s Villages in Peru we can now empower even more young people to achieve an independent and sustainable life."

The commitment to education is part of Deutsche Post DHL’s corporate responsibility strategy “Living Responsibility” which is based on three pillars: environmental protection (GoGreen), disaster management (GoHelp) and education (GoTeach). Through its GoTeach initiative, the group works along with its two international partners SOS Children’s Villages and Teach For All. The commitment resolves around improving educational levels and employability of disadvantaged young children and young people through mentoring, first insights into today’s working environment or job qualification training. The company’s GoTeach initiatives are carried out in Peru by SOS Children’s Villages and Ensena Peru. Furthermore, the joint work with Un Techo Para Mi Pais helps provide housing in Peru for families in extreme poverty.

Agreement with SOS Children’s Villages

Deutsche Post DHL today signed an agreement with SOS Children’s Villages in Peru, whose mission is to provide disadvantaged youth aged between 15 and 25 with enhanced education and training opportunities so they are better prepared to attain a professional career and earn an income that would allow them to live independently as young adults. The company’s support for SOS Children’s Villages in Peru will provide access to internships and develop training programs and activities that will allow Peruvian youth to become acquainted with a real working environment. DHL employees will also offer their time to serve as mentors.

Agreement with Ensena Peru

In addition, Deutsche Post DHL extended its global partnership with Teach For All. In Peru the company will continue to work with the local partner, Ensena Peru, helping to ensure that a high-quality education is available to many more children and youth so they can fulfill their true potential. A highlight of this partnership is the co-coaching mentoring program launched in 2012, in which the company and Ensena Peru pair Deutsche Post DHL employees in Peru and teaching participants to work together and build a strong relationship throughout the year.

The extended agreement with Teach For All will provide the organization with financial support to achieve its goals through 2015 as well as renew the commitment of the company’s employees to participate in activities benefitting students and teachers through mentoring, internships, learning workshops, visits to Deutsche Post DHL facilities or donation drives. Deutsche Post DHL also aims to support the establishment of three new national partnerships with Teach For All network partners by 2015. The first one will be launched with Teach For The Philippines this year.

Work with Un Techo Para Mi Pais

Furthermore, Deutsche Post DHL has partnered with Un Techo Para Mi Pais in Latin America since 2010. As part of this partnership employees and executives from DHL’s three business units have worked together to build homes in Colombia, Mexico and Peru. The work with Un Techo Para Mi Pais stems from the conviction that having a safe living environment is the first step in enabling children to develop and mature into self-sustaining young adults.
