POSCO Museum Hosted Unveiling Ceremony of New Sculpture
OREANDA-NEWS. July 11, 2013. The POSCO Museum hosted an unveiling ceremony of a new sculpture with former and current employee and officer names engraved in honor of its 10th anniversary of opening.
This sculpture named, `Spirit of POSCO People` features engravings of 51,841 former and current officers and employees that have contributed to POSCO becoming what it is today since founding on a metal plate 100cm wide and 190cm tall.
The `Spirit of POSCO People` made of 26 steel plates is installed along the walls leading from the 2nd floor exhibition room to the outdoor exhibition area in chronological order, while the POSCO company song installed in a frame at the entrance to the sculpture with music faintly flowing from speakers for musical effects. At the bottom of the sculpture, a chronological table of major events and accomplishments are listed, heightening pride as a POSCO member.
At the unveiling ceremony, Vice President Hwang Eunyeon said, ``POSCO was able to become the globally most competitive steel company only thanks to the endless efforts and spirit of sacrifice of our seniors. The `Spirit of POSCO People` symbolically represents the new history POSCO will make in the future, and will foster the self esteem and pride of POSCO people with its unchanging form even throughout the coming years.``
Meanwhile, the POSCO Museum which opened on July 3rd in 2003 was registered as the first specialized private museum in the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, while the former Samhwa Steelworks furnace of the museum`s collection was registered as a cultural property by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2005.
The POSCO Museum which lies on 32,783? of land, is a three-story 3,636? building made of stainless steel and glass for a modern image, and possesses 25,000 pieces of various relics of POSCO People as well as historical records from the Iron Age with 800 pieces on display.
The POSCO Museum where 870,000 people have visited since opening is a live education site of steel history, and is becoming a benchmark for other companies as a leading corporate museum.
