OREANDA-NEWS. Hong Kong International Airport's (HKIA) Meeters and Greeters Hall was the scene of a spontaneous 15th anniversary celebration today, when a mob of dancers materialised out of the crowd of people waiting to meet their loved ones. Snapping their fingers and shaking their bodies, the dancers were suddenly joined by about 300 airport staff who emerged from all corners of the Arrivals Hall, moving to a medley of pop songs and entertaining bystanders with an energetic performance.

After the 10-minute dance, everyone was invited to a cake-cutting ceremony where Stanley Hui Hon-chung, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), expressed his gratitude to the staff who volunteered to perform in the airport's first-ever mob dance. “Thanks all of you who showed your passion and enthusiasm, just like the members of the airport community do every day to bring the best service possible to our passengers. You can all look back at the last 15 years and feel a real sense of pride about how you have helped HKIA become one of the best, busiest airports in the world.

“HKIA has been an important part of Hong Kong ever since it moved from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok,” Mr Hui added. “Since 1998, passenger volume and flight movements have doubled, and cargo throughput has increased by 150%. All these growths have supported Hong Kong's pillar industries and contributed significantly to the local economy. Back in the 1980s some questioned whether Hong Kong had enough demand to justify a mega infrastructure project like HKIA, but history has proven that the demand was real and will only keep growing. We will continue to do everything we can to help HKIA meet its medium- and long-term growth needs in the most transparent, thorough and professional manner possible. I look forward to celebrating many more successes and anniversaries in the years ahead.”

The mob dance happened one day after AAHK hosted a celebratory 15th anniversary Gala Dinner, officiated by C Y Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government, and attended by friends and members of the airport community.
