Traditionally, in anticipation of the All-Russian fete “The day of the inventor and rationalizer”, NPO Saturn tallied up the results of its in-company competition dubbed “Invention and rationalization as a way of solving NPO Saturn's daily research and technology tasks” for the year 2012.

Greeting the company's rationalizers and inventors with their professional holiday, NPO Saturn chief executive officer Ilya Fedorov stated that “the solutions and proposals put forward by the employees of NPO Saturn in the form of intellectual property objects and improvement product / process initiatives are an integral part of the production-technological potential and creation of the research and technology backlog to ensure the company's competitive edge in the future. Therefore we are doing our best to facilitate the development of innovation activity and we highly appreciate the results of every invention and rationalization proposal”.

Following the competition's results, the company's best division for organizing the invention-related activity is considered the technical direction's compressors design department.

The company's best division for organizing the rationalization-related activity is the chief process engineer division's team.

“The best invention” is a product designed under a patent ¹ 2471595 “The electrolyte for electrochemical machining” (authors: Georgiy Erochkin, senior design engineer in the pilot plant's prospective production processes department and Sergey Afanasov, head of electric machining processes sector in the prospective production processes department).

Best rationalization (product / process improvement) proposals:

• “Process of restoration of a sub-assembly “Spool, stages 11-17” 095018017 of the gas turbine engine GTE-110” (authors: Vladimir Ivanov, deputy chief process engineer for mechanical assembly shops, Yuriy Ivanov, senior engineer in the chief process engineer division, Marina Knyazeva, senior specialist in shop ¹ 57, Ilya Sokolov, head of the central process engineering department in the chief process engineer division).

• “Process of cutting out the welded lock in the inner cavity of the welded spool 117.01.35.750” (authors: Evgeniy Aristov, deputy head of shop ¹ 35 for operations and Mikhail Kasatkin, NPO Saturn chief engineer).

The title “NPO Saturn best inventor” was assigned to Vladimir Posadov, technical expert of gas turbine engines vibration monitoring in the technical direction's mechanical strength department.

The title “NPO Saturn best rationalize” was assigned to Yuriy Ivanov, senior process engineer in the chief process engineer division; Vadim Zavarkin, deputy head of SaM146 in-service design support department; Vladimir Nikonenko, head of turbine stator design team in the turbines design department.

Looking at the overall results demonstrated in 2012, over 630 company's employees took part in the invention and rationalization-related activities having submitted in total 418 applications for product / process and produced 74 intellectual property objects (inventions, utility models, PC software, databases, the know-how, utility production results). The economic effect as a result of implementing the 279 product / process improvement proposals has equaled 112 million rubles. Net profit in the amount of 5,4 million rubles is obtained as part of NPO Saturn's overall financial performance in 2012 due to the use of the inventions and utility models in the company's serial production.
