OREANDA-NEWS. NPO Saturn presented its product line as part of the overall United Engine Corporation exposition at the biggest international oil & gas industry show “OIL & GAS-2013” which got underway on 25 June 2013 in Moscow.

Approximately 1000 companies from some 40 countries are featured at the exhibition. The show provides a unique opportunity for the key players of the Russian and world oil & gas industry to showcase their newest developments and technologies to a wide audience of specialists, establish direct business contacts and achieve business development-related goals.

NPO Saturn acting as a supplier of industrial gas turbine engines for gas-pumping and power-generation application traditionally takes part in the show under the auspices of the United Engine Corporation. The new feature of the UEC overall exposition is a gas turbine engine dubbed E70/8RD designed and manufactured by NPO Saturn.

The full-size mockup of the E70/8RD engine is displayed in a special dimmed room at the exposition stand using modern interactive technologies, in particular 3D video-mapping multimedia technologies. Three projectors are used to simultaneously project a uniform image onto the exhibit and the screen thus allowing to effectively demonstrate the engine in operation.

A one-of-a-kind dual-fuel civil E70/8RD gas turbine engine in marine configuration utilizing an automatic transfer from liquid (diesel) to gaseous fuel with no performance loss in the process is intended for use as part of the power plants operated by the oil & gas industry connected to the coastal line, the shelf area; it can potentially be used on drilling platforms, loading and unloading terminals, gas-liquefaction plants and floating power plants. Besides, the uniform E70/8RD gas turbine engine can be used as part of the vessels' main power plants (gas carriers, high-speed passenger ferries, ice breakers, etc).

The E70/8RD gas turbine engine produced by NPO Saturn under the contract signed with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Commerce with a total life of up to 100 thousand hours and power rated at 8 MW boasts high efficiency and improved weight-size ratio.

“We believe that our engine has now materialized, - shared Pavel Fetisov, NPO Saturn deputy CEO, industrial and marine gas turbine engine programs, - it has been assigned the Letter О1. - It is a unique engine since for the very first time it features a dual-fuel design and demonstrates high economic performance rivaling its world-market analogs. This is a hefty fact. Besides, NPO Saturn has worked up a research-and-engineering backlog for the engines in the power range of 16 and 25 MW in marine configuration; the work is closing completion on the two contracts to engineer Russia's first marine gas turbine electrical generator with the power of 8 MW called SGTG-8. At the moment NPO Saturn is the unique manufacturer of this type of equipment in Russia. We hope that the E70/8RD engine and the SGTG-8 generator derived from it, will be in demand with the oil & gas industry players and the operators will have a chance to appreciate their outstanding performance”.
