Driving under Influence of Intoxicant to Be Fined Tougher in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2013. Driving under the influence of an intoxicant is to be fined tougher in Moldova. This is provided by amendments to the Criminal Code passed by the Parliament in the second.
Parliament also raised the thresholds of blood alcohol concentration to define a degree of alcohol intoxication.
The light intoxication will be considered the alcohol blood concentration of 0.3 to 1 g/l and the breath alcohol concentration of 0.15 to 0.5 mg/l.
They used to be 0.3 to 0.8 g/l and 0.15 to 0.4 mg/l respectively.
The excess of the upper bounds is considered the heavy alcoholic intoxication.
According to MIA, the amendments will help to better identify what fine should be imposed in this or that case of drink driving.
For example, driving under the heavy intoxication, if the driver did not commit a road accident, is fined up to 150 conventional units with disqualification for 2 to 3 years.
Fines were also established for alcohol or drug abuse by drivers who committed a road accident and wait for the road police to come to the scene.
The Code was also amended by introduction of fines and driver disqualification for 2 to 3 years for alcohol or drug abuse and for taking drug- or alcohol-based medicines by drivers after they committed a road accident.
As a result of the amendments, the examination for drunkenness was simplified. To found a driver drunk results of the alcohol breathalyzer are considered enough.
Drink or drug driving without the driver license is fined 100 conventional units or unpaid social work for 20 to 40 hours or imprisonment for up to 15 days.
