OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2013. President Dalia Grybauskaite congratulated the laureates of the German Economy Award. Every year most innovative Lithuanian businesses carrying out exports to Germany participate in this competition, held by the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce for the eighth time already. This year's award was presented to high-tech company Brolis Semiconductors which had opened the state-of-the-art semiconductor laser laboratory in Eastern Europe.

"This year, special attention has been devoted to young business. I am greatly pleased that we have a lot to be proud about. A new generation of business professionals has emerged in independent Lithuania. They are people of vision and courage. They are set to create jobs for themselves and to impress the world. They accept failures as lessons that will eventually lead them to success. Young ambitious entrepreneurs are paving the way for the Lithuanian business to become European business. They are contributing to making Lithuania competitive on the global market," the President said.

She underlined that Lithuania has lots of talented people, but that is not enough. We can create prosperity and well-being only by turning our ideas into marketable goods. We are still learning in Lithuania, but we already have many inspiring examples - like the success stories of today's winners.

According to the President, there is only one path of success for both Lithuania and Europe - which is built on competitiveness, dynamism and innovation. Collaboration of Lithuanian and German businesses contributes to creating innovative business and fostering transparent business culture.

German investments in Lithuania account for 4 billion litas, which makes Germany the third largest investor in Lithuania. Germany ranks first among export destinations for Lithuanian goods and fourth in total volumes of exports from Lithuania. At present around 520 German companies and more than 1000 companies with German capital operate in Lithuania.

On July 11-13, President Joachim Gauck of Germany will be paying a state visit to Lithuania. During the visit, Lithuanian and German business people will discuss prospects for cooperation at the Lithuanian-German business forum to be opened by the two Presidents at the Presidential Palace.
