Ukraine Introduces Strict Control Over Safety of Foodstuffs
OREANDA-NEWS. June 24, 2013. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has announced that during a session of the Cabinet of Ministers there will be discussed a draft law directed to improvement of a system of state control in the area of safety of foodstuffs, regulating of relations between executive authorities, operators of the market of foodstuffs and consumers.
“The draft bill underwent broad discussion. The project proposes the system of safety of foodstuffs according to which the countries work and we focus on them in trade and political relations,” Mykola Azarov explained.
He informed that the main principle of the new system is introduction on enterprises of food industry of a system of self-control. “It means maximal responsibility for the safety and quality of products is placed upon the producer,” Mykola Azarov stressed. He underlined that these days entering the world markets was impossible without introduction of such system of industrial safety. This system of control is obligatory in the states of EU, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Middle East countries.
Besides, according to the Premier, it is necessary to improve the system of state control which are distributed among departments.
“It is a well known factor of “collective irresponsibility” when controllers are changed by others and as a result the citizens are left unprotected from low quality products. That’s why, on the one hand we will shorten the number of checks. On the other hand – we will determine strict demands to the state inspectors for the violation of the order of monitoring,” Mykola Azarov emphasized.
In whole, according to him, introduction of the new system of safety and quality of foodstuffs will afford to increase the level of protection of life and health of consumers, facilitate to enlargement of sales markets for the domestic foods and raising of its competitiveness.
