Tata Partners with Nigerian State on Safe Driving
OREANDA-NEWS. Indian automobile giant Tata is collaborating with Nigeria's state of Lagos to equip drivers with prerequisite skills and training in driving technology.
The partnership with the Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) would bring about aggregates which when properly used by the school, would develop the driving skills of the drivers in the state and the country at large, said Jerard Nayagain, general manager, Tata Motors Limited in Nigeria."Our partnership is in kind and not in cash. We provide equipment and other materials needed by the Lagos driving school for them to achieve their objectives", he told PTI.
According to him, the partnership will help the institute to get well-trained drivers of different categories.
Welcoming the initiative, Ayodele Oyedokun, chief executive officer of LASDRI, said that the importance of human capacity development cannot be overemphasised, stressing the need to develop manpower in order to boost productivity and reduce the possibilities of road crashes on Nigerian roads."We are here because Tata has written to us a proposal to collaborate with us. They would give us equipment, substrate engines and so on. They are going to collaborate with us in building human capacity and other things that would make training easy for us to equip our staff with the necessary tools and skills," he said.
Many people die while some get injured along Nigerian roads daily and most of the accidents are blamed on poor driving.
